Kenya’s Harambee Stars have been handed a tough draw in Group D of AFCON 2027 qualifiers, paired with continental heavyweights Nigeria and Senegal, as well as Benin and Sudan, following Wednesday’s draw in Cairo.
The draw immediately sparked debate among fans, with many pointing to Kenya’s recent improved form under new technical bench as reason for cautious optimism, despite the daunting opposition.
“Every group at this level is difficult, but we respect ourselves,” said Harambee Stars head coach following the draw. “We will prepare for Nigeria and Senegal the same way we prepare for anyone else โ with full commitment.”
Kenya open their campaign at home against Benin in September, before back-to-back away fixtures against Senegal and Nigeria later in the qualifying window.
