Gor Mahia produced their best performance of the season to thrash Tusker FC 3-1 at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on Thursday night, leapfrogging Tusker into first place on the Kenyan Premier League table.
The K’Ogalo faithful, numbering over 25,000, watched their side dominate from the first whistle. Striker Benson Omala opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a thumping header, before a quickfire double either side of half-time from playmaker Austin Odhiambo put the result beyond doubt.
“This is the response we needed after last week’s draw,” said Gor Mahia head coach Sammy Omollo. “The boys showed character, showed hunger, and showed why this club is built for the top.”
Tusker’s lone consolation came from a well-struck free kick in the 78th minute, but it was too little, too late for the Brewers, who slip to third.
Gor Mahia now sit two points clear at the summit with six matches remaining, and travel to Kakamega to face AFC Leopards in what promises to be a fiery derby next weekend.
